A Geography Lesson

Albania. Cuba. Netherlands. Dallas, Texas. Peru. Mexico. California.

It's not a list of the places I've visited and the places I'd like to see. It's not your typical geography lesson. Let me explain.

Tuesday, had a date with an Albanian guy. We had a great time talking, joking around and comparing the differences between Eastern Europeans and Americans. He was smart, good-looking, interesting and refreshing. He told me a story that inspired an uncomfortable nostalgia. He was in the car with his cousin who was driving completely recklessly. His cousin attempted a sharp turn and ran over a two year old. Don't worry, the two year old was OK. He tried to convince his cousin to stop but his cousin chose to flee the scene. About 10 angry men got in their cars and drove after them, shouting obscenities and waving axes and knives out the window. The boys finally stopped and surrendered to these dangerous men. At no point in the story was the police called. Ah, sounds just like Romania.
Unfortunately, this boy has left for Europe for a month. Since this was our first date, who knows if we'll both be interested by the time he returns. Thanks Universe!

Thursday I met Cuban guy at a salsa club. He asked for my phone number and texted me Saturday. His Latin charm oozed even through the pixels forming words on my screen. Although I had to look up 'hermosa' in Google Translate, it was worth it to know what he meant. I said I would meet with him Sunday since I was too busy Saturday. Alas, I never did text him Sunday. Somehow I have a feeling I might hear from him again.

Saturday I had an unexpected dinner date with Dutch guy. Ran into a friend outside the restaurant who told me I should stop talking to her and go right back to my very cute date. He was indeed very cute and the date went well. Unfortunately, Dutch guy is incredibly wrapped up in his PhD work for Aerospace Engineering, and my sister asked me not to date him for legit reasons. Dang it. Universe 2, Dating Aficionado 0.

Saturday night I went out with some friends. Little did I expect for Dallas guy to be in town. Hadn't spoken with him in a while but we've always had a bit of an interest in each other. Hung out with him all night then went to brunch the next morning. Had a great time. But it was cut short by his return to Dallas Sunday. And he's a laywer who works long arduous hours, so who knows when he'll be back. Universe strikes again.

This same Saturday night, I got a text from Peruvian guy. He only texts me to see if I'm downtown, or if I'm going downtown. Saturday he texted me to see if I wanted to smoke hookah. At 2 in the morning. Pretty sure I know what he wants.

Monday I had a date with half Mexican guy. I was kind of harsh with him in the past, but I've decided to really give him a chance. And I actually had a lot of fun. We'll see where this goes. Ha, Universe. Take that!

So far Universe 3 Me 1. So far...
