Dear lovers, singles and friends,
What a better day to write an entry but on Valentine’s Day?
Whether you’re with a significant other, by yourself, with
your dog, with your family or with your friends, today is a day that we should
all celebrate together. Today, we won’t pay homage to the spirit of love, but
to the spirit of kindness and respect.
On this luminous, beautiful Valentine’s Day, I’m going to
celebrate nice guys.
Oh we say we want someone to love us, admire us and treat us
like queens, but let’s face it. It takes a certain amount of growing up,
crushing heartbreak, more growing up and reading “He’s Just Not That Into You”
from cover to cover 267 times, before your heart actually believes it. For a
good portion of those prime teenage and adult years, women get addicted to
drama, uncertainty and the bad boy. Finally, the day comes where you’ve had
enough or you’ve gotten plain bored of bad behavior, and the nice guy comes in
to fill the space.
I’ve met several nice guys in my life. But it wasn’t until
last year that I fully appreciated them.
It started with my ex whom I had a 7-month relationship with
and it’s manifested again with the current guy I’m dating. He’s a surfer, an
attorney, a bad dancer but most importantly, a nice, respectful and thoughtful
guy.
I’m not quite sure I feel the spark with Mr.
Kicks-Ass-In-Court or that we’ll continue getting thrashed around by rough Pacific
Ocean waves but I really appreciate the way he treats me!
He planned every date to be fun and interesting, he called
on the dot, he texted to see if I’m feeling better from my cold, he asked how
my work presentations went and he made an effort to get to know my
friends. The hard work paid off because all
I keep hearing is , “he seems really into you.”
Wow, it feels good not to wait by the phone. Boy, it feels
liberating not to waste any time on flaky man-children. And, damn, it feels nice to cuddle on some
rock-hard abs ;)
XOXO,
Dating Aficionado
